This design is inspired by the beauty of a mirage. A mirage's attractiveness lies in the way it captivates viewers by conjuring up a fantastical and mystical experience. The illusion of motion and fluidity that a mirage may create is interesting to observe. The way it appears to shimmer and change as you move closer or farther away adds to its captivating charm. Due to the way it reflects and refracts light, a mirage has unique colors and patterns. The design is focused on creating a space that maximizes the beauty and serenity of the natural surroundings. The emphasis on the view creates a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors, while also taking advantage of the privacy the home offers. Using colors associated with the beach as well as the mirage like dark blue, is a way to evoke the illusion of water and the associated feelings of calmness, depth, and tranquility that can be found in its bright hues.

Part 2

Sara was involved in a car accident, which has left her in a wheelchair. The current design now needs to be updated to meet ADA standards and accommodate Sara’s needs as a wheelchair user.

This design aims to make Sara feel safe and comfortable again, letting her forget about the accident and motivating her by proving that everything is still accessible to her and that she can still be independent, but also maintaining the home's initial experience of the mirage. Customizing furniture, adjusting heights, creating easier ways to help her save energy and still be able to relax and enjoy her new home.

  • A space with no excuses.

  • Save energy and relax from the struggles of the outside.

  • Feeling safe again.

  • Sara can do everyday tasks alone.

  • Nothing that screams wheelchair accessible home.

  • Does not look unusual.

  • Accessible for Sara, Khaled, and at least 2 guests.
